Eat the Honey
Psalm 36:7-8, NIV
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God! People take refuge in the shadow of your wings. They feast on the abundance of your house; you give them drink from your river of delights.
Proverbs 24:13-14, NIV
Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. Know also that wisdom is like honey for you: If you find it, there is a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.
1 Timothy 6:17, NIV
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
God wants us to eat the honey. We don’t have to choose between wisdom or honey—righteousness or pleasure—God wants us to have both.
One thing I’ve learned in the last ten years of my walk with God is that we serve a God who not only supplies our needs, but who also supplies the things which give us joy. He richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
When we walk with Jesus, he doesn’t only desire to give us the bare necessities, he desires to give to us abundantly—spiritual abundance and earthly abundance. Not an earthly abundance of “things” per say, but an abundance of situations and experiences which bring us delight. He doesn’t only give us what we need, he gives us what delights us. Just as a parent finds joy in giving good gifts of delight to their children, so does God find joy in giving good gifts of delight to His children. Even in seasons in which God calls us to deprivation or sacrifice, we will find that there will still be delight hidden within those seasons.
So don’t be afraid to eat the honey. God created our taste buds, and he created honey to taste sweet. Enjoy the gifts and experiences God gives you with delight and gratitude. Enjoy the honey :)
