For His Name's Sake
Psalm 23:3, ESV
He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Psalm 31:3, ESV
For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name’s sake you lead me and guide me;
For his name's sake. This phrase is found all over the Old Testament. And in the New Testament, it’s said like this:
Colossians 3:17
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Wherever God leads us, we can be sure it is for his name's sake. Everywhere we go, everything we do—everything we say—is for the sake of the name of Jesus.
Oh, if only we could see our lives this way—and grasp this from the bottom of our hearts. What joy and meaning we would uncover in the mundane and monotony. What peace and anticipation we would discover in the unknown.
Wherever God takes us, it’s for his name’s sake.
Whatever we do, may we do it for his name’s sake.
Whatever we speak, may it be for his name’s sake.
Oh Lord, thank you for the purpose we have through you! Help us to view our present realities—where we are, what we do, and what we say—as conduits to bring glory to your name. Amen.
