Going Without Knowing
Hebrews 11:8, ESV
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.
If we’re waiting to go until we know everything, then we’ll never go.
Going without knowing is a common thread woven throughout the entirety of the Bible, displayed in the lives of men and women of faith all throughout scripture.
God called Noah to build an ark without knowing what rain looked like or how the animals were going to get there.
God called Abraham to go without knowing where he was going.
God called Moses to go to pharaoh without knowing how God was going to get his people out.
God called Joshua and Gideon and leaders all over the Old Testament to go into battle without knowing how they were going to win it.
God called Esther to go to the king without knowing if she would keep her life or be killed.
God called Nehemiah to go back to Jerusalem to build the wall without knowing how it would be done.
Jesus called the disciples to follow him without knowing what that would look like or what it would cost.
Jesus called the disciples to go and spread the good news two by two without knowing where they would stay or how they would be provided for.
And on and on and on.
So often we stay or wait because we insist upon knowing all the details before we go—but that’s not usually how God works.
So if God is calling you to go today, then go.
Go without knowing.
Enjoy the journey—and be ready to be amazed.
