The Light of Jesus
Isaiah 9:2, ESV
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone.
Luke 1:78-79, ESV
“because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”
Luke 2:32, ESV
“a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.”
John 8:12, ESV
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 12:46, ESV
“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.”
It’s very difficult to walk in the dark. No matter how much we try to feel our way around, when we don’t have light, we bump into stuff, trip over stuff, and feel unsure of our steps and our footing.
On top of that, darkness can feel scary—foreboding even. Despair abounds in the dark, while hope and joy abound in the light.
So if you’re walking in the light of Christ today, be grateful, for much of the world is still walking in the dark—and may that reality continually break our heart.
May our hearts be filled with love and passion—and compassion—for those who are walking in darkness, those who have not yet encountered the light of Christ.
And may the light of Jesus shine so brightly within us that the love, joy, and hope of that Light would break through every dark space we enter to draw those around us to Him.
