There is Purpose in Your Place

Proverbs 16:9

The mind of a person plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

Ephesians 2:10

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

There are so many passages throughout Scripture where God makes it clear that he directs our path. In light of that truth, we could talk about the necessity of trust and surrender and all the important things which go along with submitting to and trusting God’s plan for our lives. But the direction I felt the Lord taking us today was a little bit different. I felt like the Lord wanted us to focus on something else—that he has purpose for us in every place he takes us.

God wants to use us in every place he plants us. He used:

  • Joseph in prison.

  • Moses in Egypt.

  • Jael in her tent.

  • Samuel in the tabernacle.

  • David as a delivery boy at the battlefield.

  • The widow of Zarephath in her home.

  • Daniel in Babylon.

  • Esther in a palace in Persia.

  • Boaz in the barley fields.

  • John the Baptist in the wilderness.

  • The scattered disciples to spread the gospel to the ends of the earth.

  • John in exile on Patmos.

And of course we could go on and on.

God takes us where he wants us, and he uses us where he takes us.

May that truth resonate so deeply in our souls that it fills us not only with peace about where God has us, but also with joy about what we’re doing there.

Oh Lord, thank you that we can find peace in knowing you are directing our path and joy in knowing there is purpose for us in every place you take us! Please show us the purposes you have for us in the places you take us, and give us a willing and expectant heart to walk those purposes out. Amen.
