Trusting the Father's Will
Matthew 6:9-10
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 26:39
Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
We are the bride of Christ, like we talked about last week, and we are the children of God. God is Jesus’ Father, and he is our Father.
In Matthew 26, Jesus asks his Father three times some semblance of the question and statement found in verse 39—three times declaring his ultimate trust in the will of God.
The Son of God trusted the will of his Father no matter what. Jesus taught it (in the Lord’s Prayer), and then he did it.
We, as children of God, must trust the will of our Father—no matter what. He knows the whole story. He knows our whole story.
Just as an earthly father makes decisions for his children based upon what he knows to be best for them, so does our Heavenly Father make decisions for us that he knows are the best for us—and for the world he’s created us to reach.
Oh Lord, thank you that you have a good and perfect will for our lives. Please help us to trust and surrender to your will in all things. Amen.
