Whispers of an Awesome God

1 Kings 19:11-13, ESV

And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Psalm 91:4, NIV

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

Psalm 104:1-4, ESV

Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty, covering yourself with light as with a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. He lays the beams of his chambers on the waters; he makes the clouds his chariot; he rides on the wings of the wind; he makes his messengers winds, his ministers a flaming fire. He set the earth on its foundations, so that it should never be moved.

The same God who spoke the solar system into existence, who set the foundations of the earth, who splits the seas and calms them—is the same God who hides us in his arms and whispers our name.

Let’s ponder that for a moment.

He’s a powerful God and a personal God.

May we always stand in awe that a God so great would make a way for us to know him. May we always stand in awe that a God so great would care intimately for us. May we always stand in awe that a God so great would whisper our name.

May we always stand in awe of who our God is, and may that awe of him inform our trust in him.
