Who's Your One?
Matthew 18:12-14, ESV
What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? And if he finds it, truly, I say to you, he rejoices over it more than over the ninety-nine that never went astray. So it is not the will of my Father who is in heaven that one of these little ones should perish.
Matthew 28:19a, NIV
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations
Ephesians 2:10, NIV
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
All over the New Testament, we see Jesus going out of his way for one person. We see him choose an out-of-the-ordinary route just to encounter a desperate woman at a well. We see him cross a stormy sea just to encounter a demon-possessed man (or two from Matthew’s account) who needed to be set free. We see God send Philip to an Ethiopian eunuch who was seeking God and needed an encounter with the Gospel.
And all of these “ones” would take the message to many.
One person matters because they are valuable to God and because the fruit of one multiplies to many.
So who’s your one?
Your one might be down the street or in the next cubicle. They might be sitting beside you in a classroom or sitting beside you at a ball practice. If you’re a young mom, then your one(s) might be under your own roof. And if you don’t know who your one is in this season, then you can ask God to show you—He will!
We were created to partner with God in the advancement of His Kingdom on earth. We were created to be discipled and then to disciple others. Therefore, we will never be more fulfilled than when we are living out this mission.
Oh Lord, thank you that you care about the one! Thank you that we can partner with you, and please help us to see the people around us through your eyes. Point us to the ones which you have positioned us to encounter, that they might encounter you. Amen.
