Wisdom Grows by Knowing We Need It
1 Kings 3:7-9 ESV
“And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in. And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude. Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”
James 1:5, ESV
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and wisdom grows by knowing we need it—and asking God for it.
Sometimes it takes us so long to realize we need God’s help—in relationships, in classes, in parenting, in our work, in our finances, etc., etc., etc.
We try and try and try, we think and think and think, all the while forgetting that God wants to be invited into all of it. He wants to give us his wisdom—and he WILL give us his wisdom if we just ask.
Oh Lord, thank you that you give wisdom to us so generously when we ask. Please help us to remember to ask for your wisdom quickly, before we waste time agonizing over our problems in our own strength. Amen.
